Reigning champion Valentino Rossi on the Fiat Yamaha took the top podium spot in Germany at the Sachsenring circuit to extended his lead over teammate Jorge Lorenzo to 14 points, the Italian crossing the line 0.1 seconds ahead the Spanish rider. The Fiat Yamaha bike again demonstrating its superiority in a repeat of the Catalunya race. Again, as in Spain, Rossi fending off a determined challenge from his teammate and biggest rival.
Australina Casey Stoner looked in contention early in the race, and for the first 17 laps leading the pack. However as has become his usual pattern, he was unable to maintain his lead, his Ducati falling ultimately to fourth overall, taking the chequered flag some 10 seconds off the top spot. Spaniard Dani Pedrosa picking up third spot on the Repsol Honda.
By lap 22, another battle of the Yamahas started to unfold. with Lorenzo taking Rossi, and Pedrosa taking Stoner on lap 26. By lap 29, Rossi made the move that was to win him the race, passing Lorenzo for the last time, and holding in second until the chequered flag. Rossi clearly on top of his game and enjoying the bragging rights over his teammate and rival.
With the championship over the halfway stage, Rossi leads the standings on 176 points, ahead of Lorenzo on 162 and Stoner on 148. Britains James Toseland finishing the German race in a creditable but slow 10th place some 44 seconds off the top spot.
It was good news also for Italy in the 250cc race with Marco Simoncelli taking first place ahead of spaniards Alex Debon in second and Alvaro Bautista in third.
In the 125cc class it was spain all the way with the first five accross the line. Julian Simon, Sergio Gadea and Juan Olive coming in first, second and third respectively. British hope, young Danny Webb disappointed to post eighth, but with more to come from him in the future.
