As the quality and protection of synthetic materials improves, more and more, motorcyclists are selecting man made protective equipment and clothing rather than traditional leather. Generally also, the synthetic textiles provide better weather protection from heat, cold, and water and with the manufacturing flexibilty offered by modern fabrics, textile motorcycle clothing offers a better range of options and facilities in terms of pockets, vents and innovative design and colours. Popular construction textiles include high density (600-1000 Denier) Cordura ( a ballistic nylon fabric) and Kevlar (a synthetic high strength fabric often used in the manufacture of body armour and other military clothing). Many motorcyclists comment that the textile clothing is more comfortable that the leather equivalent, particularly in warm weather, and generally take less time to dry when wet. The table below illustrates the relative average strength and abrasion capability of the various fabrics used in the manufacture of motorcycle clothing.
