Not all textile clothing is constructed from synthetic fabric. Waxed cotton was a commonly used fabric for many years before the synthetic technology arrived on the scene and modern materials, and quality leather became commonplace.
In order to grade
motorcycle clothing, certain sets of critieria. See below:
Overall strength - The clothing must has to withstand a serious accident without tearing appart
Abrasive resistance - Grading the products that are used to reinforce the garments such as armour and Kevlar reinforcements.
Slide ability - The abilty to slide accross abrasive surfaces such as tarmac, instead of grabbing or being snagged. Sliding is less likely to cause seious injury.
Heat endurance - In the event of a slide, abrasion may cause sufficient heat for motorcycle clothing to melt or burn.
Breathability, stretchability and ventilation. mainly for rider comfort.
Not only is the physical construction of
motorcycle clothing important, but so is the colour. Specifically if riding in poor light conditions. Many Jackets look great when mainly black, but a high visibilty vest is reccomended for night and bad weather journeys. Similarly with Helmets. most new riders are taken to a black helmet, but a light or multicoloured helmet is a safer option in dull weather or dim light.
